What each part of the editor and Node Design is, and where it sits.

Verified

Roswaal has three windows: the editor, where you build graphs; Node Design, where you make the nodes they are built from; and these docs. This page is a map of the first two. How each part is used is on Controls, and every button is named on Toolbars.

On a tablet or a phone the same parts are there, arranged for a finger; a phone folds its bars further still. The Tablet and Phone tabs show where they go, and what is only there.

The editor

What are you using?

The editor on a computer, with a graph open and one node selected.

Hover a control or its row to light the other.

  1. 1Top barActs on the project: new graphs and node maps, when to compile, and the Docs, Node Design and Settings buttons. Each button is on Toolbars.
  2. 2ProjectThe project's files: graphs, node maps, and the Luau compiled from them. Double-click a graph to open it.
  3. 3VariablesWhat the open graph declares — variables, modules, functions and locals. Drag one onto the graph to use it.
  4. 4Graph tabsOne tab per open graph, and one per function graph opened from it.
  5. 5The graphWhere the nodes are. Every key and gesture it takes is on Controls.
  6. 6Graph toolsThe script's class and mode, adding a node, Realign and Straighten, and the Luau this graph compiles to.
  7. 7CompileWhat this graph compiles for, and compiling it now.
  8. 8InspectorWhile one node is selectedThe selected node, with every setting it has.
  9. 9Script analysisErrors and warnings in the open graph, and what the last compile wrote.

Info

That is where each panel starts. Drag one by its heading to another edge, or out over the graph as a window.

The editor on a tablet, with the Inspector slid out and two nodes selected.

  1. 1Top barThe same bar as on a computer. Held upright, Compile project is its icon.
  2. 2Graph tabsOne tab per open graph.
  3. 3The graphOne finger pans and two pinch; press and hold to select a group. The rest is on Controls.
  4. 4Graph toolsAs on a computer. Held upright, Straighten is its icon, lit while it is on. On a phone the script's type and mode are behind one button.
  5. 5CompileAs on a computer. Held upright, Compile script is its icon; on a phone the target is behind a button beside it.
  6. 6A panel, slid outProject, Variables and the Inspector come out over the graph one at a time, with its whole height. Tap the graph beside one to put it away.
  7. 7Action rowTouch screens onlyThe edits a keyboard makes, as buttons. Each one is named below.
  8. 8Panel buttonsTouch screens onlySlide a panel out, or put it away. Inspector's is on the right while a node is selected.
  9. 9Script analysisAs on a computer.

Under the graph on a phone or a tablet, and under Node Design's logic graph. Icons or words with Settings → Editor → Action buttons; separate buttons or one bar with Action row.

  • UndoAs Ctrl + Z. Greyed when there is nothing to undo.
  • RedoAs Ctrl + Y.
  • AlignTwo or more selectedLines the selection up on the node picked first, as A does.
  • CopySomething selectedAs Ctrl + C.

  • DuplicateSomething selectedAs Ctrl + D.
  • DeleteSomething selectedAs Delete.
  • PasteSomething copiedAs Ctrl + V, where the graph was last touched.

The editor on a phone, with Variables slid out and a node selected.

  1. 1Top barThe same bar in two rows: the project's own buttons, then Docs, Node Design and Settings under them. Compile project is its icon, and the version is in the mark's tooltip.
  2. 2The graphThe same gestures as on a tablet; see Controls.
  3. 3Graph toolsPhones onlyThe script's type and mode behind one button that says which is chosen; the tools as icons.
  4. 4CompileThe target behind a button, and compiling as its icon.
  5. 5A panel, slid outNearly the width of the screen, one at a time. Tap the graph beside it to put it away.
  6. 6Action rowAs on a tablet, wrapping when the selection offers more than a row holds.

Node Design

Opened from the editor's top bar. It lists the project's node packs; open one and pick a node to edit it.

What are you using?

Node Design on a computer, with a node open and its logic built from nodes.

  1. 1HeaderWhich window this is, the docs, the editor, and Settings.
  2. 2Node listThe pack's nodes, what it requires, and a new node. Back to every pack from its top.
  3. 3The nodeThe node as a graph will draw it. Click a pin to edit it; drag a type onto either side to add one.
  4. 4Node toolsThe node's name and description, the types to drag on, and how many inputs and outputs it has.
  5. 5LogicWhat the node does when it runs, written as Luau or built from nodes. Drag the line above it to resize.
  6. 6Logic graphWith Nodes chosenThe logic as nodes. It is the editor's graph, and takes the same keys and gestures.
  7. 7Compiled LuauWith the preview onWhat the logic compiles to, and what the node is saved as. The preview button on the logic graph's tools shows and hides it.

  2. 2Pack barTouch screens onlyThe pack, which opens its node list over the editor; the open node; and the switches between its views. Each is named below.
  3. 3The node, or its logicPreview shows the node, Logic its logic — each with the whole editor to itself.
  4. 4Logic toolsAdding a node, Realign and Straighten, as over the editor's graph, and the preview of the Luau it compiles to.
  5. 5Action rowTouch screens onlyThe same row as the editor's, acting on the logic.
  6. 6Compiled LuauWith the preview onBeneath the logic rather than beside it.

  • The packSlides the pack's node list out over the editor. Pick a node and it goes away again.
  • Preview and LogicThe node as a graph draws it, or what it does when it runs.
  • Luau and NodesWith Logic showingWrite the logic as Luau, or build it from nodes.

  1. 1HeaderAs on a computer, with Docs as its icon so the row holds Settings too.
  2. 2Pack barAs on a tablet.
  3. 3The node, or its logicAs on a tablet: one view at a time, with the whole screen.
  4. 4Node toolsPhones onlyDetails as its icon; the types to drag on and the pin counts each behind a button. A type still drags out of its panel onto the node.
  5. 5Kind and SavePhones onlyWhether the node is pure, how a pure one is drawn, and deleting it, behind a button that names its kind; Save as its icon.

Info

On phones or tablets, the Editor, Node Design and Docs share one tab, and Back returns. On a computer each has its own.
